World record hub height: Max Bögl and Vestas complete wind energy project with the tallest serial produced wind tower

The world's tallest serial wind turbine is now standing: Together with Vestas, Max Bögl Wind AG has completed a wind energy project at Winnberg near Sengenthal, further expanding the generation of renewable electricity for its headquarters. The project features a V172-7.2 mW with a hub height of 199 meters, featuring Max Bögl’s flagship hybrid tower. Commissioning is scheduled to take place within the next few weeks. At WindEnergy Hamburg from September 22 to 25, 2026, Max Bögl Wind AG will present its new record-breaking serial tower to a large international professional audience for the first time.
At its headquarters in Sengenthal, Max Bögl has erected a series-produced hybrid tower with a hub height of 199 meters for the first time. The total height of the turbine reaches 285 meters. The completed tower sets a new record in the field of serially manufactured onshore wind turbines. The turbine installed is a Vestas V172 with a rated capacity of 7.2 MW. Together with the existing generation facilities at the site, Max Bögl will be able to cover approximately two-thirds of its energy demand in Sengenthal through self-generated renewable electricity in the future.
“The first-ever construction of a serial-produced wind tower with a hub height of 199 meters opens a new chapter in the technical possibilities of wind tower construction. With our serial-producible tower design, combined with state-of-the-art turbine models such as the Vestas V172 used here, we are demonstrating how higher energy yields can be achieved economically. The turbine represents a further investment in the expansion of our own electricity generation from renewable energy sources and, at the same time, serves as a showcase project for a new generation of wind turbines. This is our response to the recent increase in demand for more powerful solutions for inland sites,” says Stefan Bögl, CEO of the Max Bögl Group.
“The completion of the project in Sengenthal is the result of excellent collaboration between Max Bögl and Vestas. This project showcases how our V172-7.2 MW turbine can be successfully integrated with innovative tower solutions to reach new hub heights and support efficient wind energy generation. Together with Max Bögl, we are demonstrating what is technically possible for future onshore wind projects,” says Phillip Seibel, Head of Technology NCE at Vestas.
A Scalable Concept for Tall Towers
Standardized components and processes make it possible to adapt the design to different hub heights and project requirements. This distinguishes the concept from individually engineered one-off and special solutions developed for particularly tall wind turbines.
At onshore locations, greater hub heights provide access to stronger and more consistent wind conditions. Following its planned commissioning in autumn 2026, the turbine is expected to generate approximately 17 to 18 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

At WindEnergy Hamburg, Max Bögl will present the completed reference project to an international audience of industry professionals for the first time. The focus will be on the scalable tower concept and the insights gained from the planning, production, logistics, and installation of the 199-meter hybrid tower. Visitors can learn more at the exhibition stand about the project and the potential of large hub heights for future onshore wind energy projects.
