The laying of the cornerstone for Lebkuchen-Schmidt’s new logistics center marked the official start of construction. The company is investing 60 million euros in a modern warehouse in Nuremberg, with the goal of becoming faster, more efficient, fresher, and more sustainable.

With the construction of its new central logistics center in Nuremberg-Langwasser, the long-established company Lebkuchen-Schmidt is entering a new era two years before its 100th anniversary. The largest single project in the company’s history, with construction costs of 60 million euros, will consolidate all sales and distribution activities starting in 2027, thereby securing the Nuremberg location and its up to 1,100 jobs for future generations.

Located about three kilometers from the headquarters of the world’s oldest gingerbread mail-order company, the 20,000-square-meter facility will provide space for approximately 30,000 pallets. To minimize the amount of land used, the new logistics center will reach a height of 34 meters. Thanks to a large rooftop solar array with an annual output of up to 900,000 kWh and a highly efficient energy management system, the building will be able to supply its own electricity. The complex will replace the six external warehouses currently in use. This transition will eliminate approximately 130,000 km of truck trips per year, resulting in a reduction of nearly 65,000 kg of CO2.
