With this new framework agreement, Max Bögl and Vestas—by far Max Bögl’s largest customer for hybrid towers—are cementing their ongoing and deepening collaboration for the next three years. This is a win not only for Vestas and Max Bögl, but also for the successful expansion of wind energy in Germany.

“Our partner Vestas and we are united by the mission to operate sustainably and innovatively, reduce emissions, expand renewable energy installations, and thereby drive the energy transition in Germany in a targeted manner. We have pursued this goal together in recent years and are now taking it to the next level with the new framework agreement,” says Josef Knitl, CEO of Max Bögl Wind AG. The framework agreement, now extended for another three years, is also a response to the increased order volume resulting from the 2023 onshore wind strategy—the package of measures introduced by the federal government at the time has, among other things, accelerated the permitting process for wind energy projects.

The production quota agreed upon in the framework agreement provides a stable foundation for both partners to meet rising demand and secure investments. In addition to existing models, Vestas will offer future generations of towers featuring Max Bögl’s Hybrid Towers with Hub heights ranging from 164 meters to 175 meters—and soon also 199 meters—on the market. “With the new framework agreement, we are securing our continuously growing demand for hybrid towers through 2028. This is an important milestone for reliable, long-term planning for both us and our customers,” says Jens Kück, Senior Vice President of Onshore Sales at Vestas Northern and Central Europe. “Vestas is investing heavily in expanding capacity for the German onshore market. The extension of the framework agreement with Max Bögl is a key element in reliably meeting the high market demand for Vestas turbines and supports our commitment to a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy system.”

Andre Jung, Head of Procurement at Vestas Northern and Central Europe, adds: “Max Bögl has invested significantly in expanding its production capacity, and Vestas will receive the largest share of this volume. This allows us to secure production capacity early on under terms that are beneficial to both parties. This not only creates reliability in the supply chain and long-term planning certainty, but also strengthens our partnership with Max Bögl—an important step toward our shared success in expanding wind energy.”

High Efficiency – Low Emissions 

Max Bögl uses eco-concrete for the concrete segments of its hybrid towers, in which 60 percent of the cement in the mix has been substituted. Limestone and granulated blast furnace slag are used as substitutes. “Thanks to this composition, we’ve been able to cut our carbon footprint in half. Our goal is to further reduce emissions in the future. To that end, we are continuously investing in our research and the further development of our innovative materials,” explains Josef Knitl. The high ultimate strength of the components required for wind turbines is fully maintained with this process—as is their high recyclability at the end of their service life.

A boost for the energy transition—the successful signing of the contract between Vestas and Max Bögl paves the way for the development of additional wind farms.
